Family fun or solo Adventurer
With Spring time and the school holidays coming up its time to start planning your next bike adventure, whether that be a winery tour on Waiheke or riding with the kids theres something for everyone. Below are some of our favorites and some products that will help you get there.
Totara Park
Situated on the outskirts of Auckland, Totara park is the perfect place to take younger riders, with a mix of beginner to intermediate trails. Fun for all skill levels it has a mix of flowy single track and wide open cycle paths.
Woodhill MTB Park
The hub of Mountainbiking in Auckland, Woodhill has something for everyone, from the beginners L plates track to the double black freeride track Barrel Run. They have hire bikes available on site and great coffee.
Onepoto Reserve
Is a favourite for families, with plenty of great facilities. The park is huge and grassy, and has two playgrounds within view of its learn-to-ride track, which is handy for those juggling kids with competing interests. The track is varied, mainly asphalt but with a few interesting bits, like a wooden ‘bridge’ and a cobbled section. There’s also a lovely boardwalk which offers a nice change of scenery when you’re all bored with the playground and the bike track.
For the Adventurers
The Hauraki Rail Trail
The varied trail offers a memorable journey across 197km of track comprising of 5 sections. Take the time to enjoy the ride as a 5 day journey at an easy pace. As a grade one cycle trail it is suitable for riders of all ages, fitness and abilities.
Waiheke Island
Just a 40 minute ferry ride from Auckland City, Waiheke has a lot to offer for the adventurous. Some great riding is to be had on the gravel roads around the back of the island and why not stop in for a glass of wine and bite to eat and one of the local winerys.
Waiheke is not flat so remember to bring your climbing legs or better yet bring an E-bike.
